is it best to go with travellers cheque or change money up when you are there? or at airport. where is the best rate?

exchanging money

Hi Tara,

1) Rates for the same type of medium (TC, cash, ATM) are same at all types of locations - e.g. airport banks vs. town banks. However in towns, some money changers (usually linked with jewelers) give a slightly better rate for cash than the banks. And hotels change too but at a worse rate.

2) Rates for TC tend to be a bit better than cash, BUT not many banks give TC%26#39;s for free - usually also they have their charges. So it%26#39;s not an easy trade-off.

3) Best rate is for ATM withdrawals, though there also with most banks there are added costs. Maestro debit cards are accepted at most commercial bank ATM%26#39;s (not the government banks).

All the best,
