We have a cash card with the words Cirrus and Maestro on it. Does anybody know if this will be acceptable in banks over there. My own bank feels it should but are not sure. Would be grateful to anyone who might know.

For sure! Sampath Bank, Commercial Bank and also one other private bank whose name I forgot - maybe Seylan. Offices/ATM%26#39;s in all midsize and big towns; the real large towns also have international bank ATM%26#39;s like HSBC and Standard Chartered.

Make sure your bank knows you%26#39;re abroad, sometimes they block ATM transactions in poor countries like Lanka for fear of skimming. And also have 50 euro or so cash with you as backup - at times all ATM%26#39;s in a town might be broke and then at least you can exchange the cash at a jewelry shop or other formal changer.
