Advice on trips please

Hi everyone

We are visiting Sri Lanka for the 1st time in January staying at the Blue Water in Wadduwa and would like to do a couple of trips.

1) Do you think it would be possible to:-

2) Combine Sigiriya rock and Kandy maybe with a night in each area if necessary?

3) Visit Galle for a day trip?

4) Go to a good place for snorkeling (I have read that there are some coral gardens on the west coast)

Any advice or recommendations would be very much appreciated

Many thanks

Rebecca

Advice on trips please

Hi Rebecca,

There we go.

2) Yes for sure. Presuming you also want to visit Pinawela orphanage 2 nights is best but 1 could JUST be done, with

* Day 1 to Kandy, afternoon and night there

* Day 2 first to Sigiriya, 10-13 h the climb up and down and then a grueling 5 hours to Wadduwa.

3) Yes easily, 2 h drive.

4) Yes also. E.g. Beruwala and Hikkaduwa have some gardens left, though south (e.g. Mirissa) has better ones.

All the best,

Advice on trips please

Hi Rebecca..

Ok here we go with answers:

1 Yes, and by far the best way to do these two places, and NOT try as many do to do in a single day, simply not worth it, more comfortable with 2 nights away, but ';just'; about ok with a single night .

2, Yep again, Galle is do-able in a single day.

3 Snorkelling:, good places Unawatuna, and Hikkaduwa, the latter could be combined with your trip down to Galle as you have to pass it, Unawatuna however maybe wise to stop overnight there, plenty nice hotels/guest houses right on beach there.

Hi guys

Do you think it would be better to stay both nights in kandy so that one of the drives is not so long?

I am not sure how long ot would take to get from kandy to sigiriya.

yes you are right i would like to see the elephant orphanage and the millennium foundation.

thanks again

Rebecca

Hi again Rebecca,

Could make sense. Kandy-Sigiriya is 90-120 mins depending on the traffic. So this would make the journey to Wadduwa shorter indeed. Could even do Pinawela on either the incoming or outgoing journey as it%26#39;s almost on the Wadduwa-Kandy road.

All the best again,

Hi again Rebecca

All a matter of personal choice here, but for me i would rather head straight for Sigiriya/Dambulla area from Blue Water, climb the ';Rock'; in the late afternoon/evening time stay for one night and then head on down to Kandy for another night stop, much the same in terms of travelling but saves doing doing the Kandy/Sigiriya return drive, so ';maybe'; a better option.

Can also take in the Dambulla cave temples too, well worth seeing.

Elephants at the Orphanage and Millenium Foundation are virtually next door to each other, so yes easily done together, my ';personal'; option would be visit the Orphange ';river bath'; whilst taking lunch at the restaurant to the LEFT (Elephant House Hotel) as you go down the slope to the river, then onto to the Foundation afterwards, the Orphange is a ';little'; too touristy really, but at Foundation you get to ride, and then bathe with them in the river, but ultimately your choice of course !

Regards

Dave
