Kani Lanka Resort and Spa - what type of plug sockt?

Hi there,

What type of plug sockets do they have at the Kani Lanka hotel - is is a square three pin plug (same as UK)?

Many thanks,

Carla

Kani Lanka Resort and Spa - what type of plug sockt?

Hi Carla,

Most hotels have a mixture, depending on the room wing and hence year of installation/renovation. Some rooms have UK-style square plugs, and others have Lankan-style which is 2/3 pin round. A 2-pin plug does work as long as one fools the earth (3rd) pin with some plastic/wood stick.

Generally hotels have (universal) travel adapters on loan though it doesn%26#39;t harm to bring one yourselves too...

At your service,

Thanks Erik - also a couple of other questions if that%26#39;s ok!

Are there any beaches we should visit in Kalutara (or surrounding areas) that are particularly beautiful? Are there such beaches where you get left alone or will you always be approached by beach boys?

Also, is it worth visiting other hotels in Kalutata for drinks/ meals in the evenings? Are any within walking distance or short tuk tuk ride away?

Is the Green Bamboo restaurant/bar within walking distance?

Is Bentota about half an hour away by taxi? Is there a particular place you should ask to get dropped off at - ie a main road or should you specify a hotel or restaurant first? Can you wander around Bentota freely?

Thanks so much!

Carla

Hi again,

Okay here we go again. Can%26#39;t give all details as it%26#39;s 10+ years back that we stayed at Kani Lanka, then called the Sindbad...

%26gt;Are there any beaches we should visit in Kalutara (or surrounding areas) that are particularly beautiful?

Not really but the hotel beach is quite good, being on a peninsula.

%26gt;Are there such beaches where you get left alone or ?%26gt;will you always be approached by beach boys?

Difficult to avoid them though you could try a few km from the closest hotel :-( And of course they are not allowed in the hotel gardens themselves on the hotel grounds, but this excludes the beach. As KL is on a peninsula it might be that part of their beach is private (--%26gt; offlimits to the BB), don%26#39;t remember that detail...

%26gt;Also, is it worth visiting other hotels in Kalutata %26gt;for drinks/ meals in the evenings? Are any within

%26gt;walking distance or short tuk tuk ride away?

None near. The other beach hotels are 10 km away as it%26#39;s first 4-5 km by tuktuk to city centre and then same distance to Kalutara North; as the crow flies they are only 2-3 km away. There are a few smaller shops and restaurants at walking distance though.

%26gt;Is the Green Bamboo restaurant/bar within walking ?%26gt;distance?

Pass on this, sorry.

%26gt;Is Bentota about half an hour away by taxi? Is there a particular place you should ask to get dropped off at - ie a main road or should you specify a hotel or restaurant first? Can you wander around Bentota freely?

Yes, a nice outing. Just ask for drop off opposite the hotel zone, e.g. Serendib hotel. Here are also the independent restaurants on Galle Road and the hotel byroad. Safe to wander around freely!

All the best,

Hi Carla....

Just to add to Erik%26#39;s already good comments, i seem to remember that the Green Bamboo restuaraunt was close to The Mermaid Hotel, if so then definately not with walking distance from KL, but maybe a 10 minute tuk tuk ride away northwards.

Regards

Dave

Hi Carla

At Bentota you should get dropped off at the restaurant you want to go to, e.g. Golden Grill, Susanthas, Wunderbar. There is really not much to see in the tourist area behind the beach hotels except a shopping arcade (esp. at night).

There are also some good restaurants at the south end of Beruwala (Moragalla). On the Beach you will find Maharaja (great seafood) and Blue Lagoon. Located on Galle Road are Ayesha Pub %26amp; Restaurant and the newly opened Pub, Coffee Lounge and Restaurant call Riverdale (looks a bit posh looking from the road).

Hans

P.t. in hot and sunny Aluthgama

Thank you everyone, this is really great info, much appreciated,

Carla
