Where to stay in Dec Wunderbar or Taj

Hi I have previously stayed at Wunderbar diuring my visits to Bentota but am considering the taj during my stay this time. Can anyone comment on recent stays at the taj or at wunderbar

Quality as designed should be better for Taj, which was built as a full 4-star. However our stay at Taj last year confirmed what Dave also notified more recently - it%26#39;s fading away slightly, with some maintenance backlog esp. in the public areas. Still, not many beach hotels in Lanka can IMHO match the Taj in things like the vast gardens, the spa, the pool (with a rare IN-pool bar) and the relatively spacious standard rooms. And the lovely buffet restaurant too...

As you have previously stayed at Wunderbar you obviously know all about it, the hotel has been refurbished since you were last there, re-opening in July this year.

Taj Exotica, like all 3 Taj hotels in Sri Lanka is now showing it%26#39;s age, and getting a little tired as Erik has mentioned, now probably nearer 3 star than it%26#39;s price tag would lead you to believe, and the service there would be a lot more formal than at Wunderbar, not so personal i fear, so, ';what to do'; as they say down in Lanka, obviously your choice, but for me i would stick with Wunderbar if i were you, anyway, much better value too.

Hi, I have stayed at the Taj and the Wunderbar on several occasions. I like the Taj and would go back but as you know the Wunderbar is much more relaxed and the guys are much more trustworthy. i was ripped off at the Taj on 2 occasions. Wish i was you having to decide, i can%26#39;t get back to sri lanka until Feb due to work commitments.. hmmmm. I am sure you will make the right choice and have an amazing time. Anthea

Do you happen to know if Roshan is still working at Wunderbar????? I am thinking of staying at the Taj this time for a change, but will definitely be spending my evenings at Wunderbar lol.

Just back from 10 days in the Taj. It%26#39;s a great hotel. We had an Orchid room on the 6th floor - nice sea view, nice room.

The staff are very helpful and will get you anything. We didn%26#39;t carry cash around - just put everything on the bill.

We used the Spa / Massage facilities and the Gym and of course the pool and the sea - which is just outside the rather expansive gardens. The sea is very rough at the moment but still great.

There was live music in the bar every night.

The local beer is 400 rupees; certain cocktails 700 Rupees.

A meal is about 2000 rupees each but the wine is pricey at 3500 Rupees a bottle (cheapest) on top. A posh meal like lobster is 4000 rupees each but it is top quality and well worth it in the Sea view restaurant. Conversion £5 = 1000 rupees - though exchange rate is volatile at the mo so re check.

I would definitely recommend the Taj = I%26#39;d say it is a 4 star hotel and they definitely try hard to please.

We did not venture out much since the Taj had 4 restaurants so there was plenty of choice.
