Me and my partner arrive in Beruwela to the Neptune hotel on 1st Jan for two weeks and have heard that there are a lot of curried dishes for dinner. She has a nut allergy (not deadly but still unpleasant) especially to peanuts. Do the local curries tend to contain nuts and if so will the locals be receptive to the issue or is there a local phrase I can use to identify nuts in the food?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Nut allergy
Hi Nick,
Some curries do contain nuts yes. But there are plenty without those, and also usually plenty of Western-type dishes (e.g. Italian) in the Neptune buffet. If you inform the servants they can tell you on a day by day basis which food to avoid, and the cook would even be happy to make one or two %26#39;specials%26#39; because of a guest with diet!
Sandya is back tomorrow from Colombo so presently can not give you the Sinhala word for peanut/allergy, but this is a common question in SL hotels so the waiters will be used to handling this in English.
Have a nice stay,
