We are visiting Galle in January and have read that our hotel is not the best place to book trips. Can anyone offer advice on how and where they booked trips while on holiday in Galle. Also what trips are available - costs etc.
Day trips from Galle
Hi Ozzie,
Can%26#39;t comment on the specific independent operators and beach boys in that area, though I know that nearby Unawatuna has at least 10+ independent booking offices. Some of which might %26#39;pool%26#39;, so collect a group of tourists sharing the costs for the van making it cheaper.
Can give some idea on the excursions there. Day trips:
* Udu Walawe safari (either leave Galle 4 AM or return at 9 PM, as it%26#39;s 2.5 hours ride and dusk/dawn safaris only)
* Coastal zone to the north: Hikkaduwa glass bottom boat trip %26amp; moonstone mine, Ambalangoda mask factory, Balapitiya river/lagoon boat trip, turtle hatchery.
* Singharaja walking safari (leave 5-6 AM from Galle to have optimal benefit, as it%26#39;s 3 hours drive one way)
Generally cost would be around Rs 8,000 per car per day for the average trip (2 x 100 km), plus entrance fees where applicable.
All the best,
%26lt;Erik%26gt; %26amp; [Sandya]
