Driving Times

Hi,

We are going to be in Sri Lanka next month, staying in Thalpe near Galle. We are hoping to leave Galle on a Saturday morning and head up to either Kandy or Sigiriya for 2 nights, flying out of Colombo on Monday afternoon.

From reading the forums it seems like Sigiriya maybe more interesting than Kandy but it is farther from Galle. Does anyone know what the likley driving times would be in early January and if you would recommend one over the other.

Thanks!

Driving Times

Hi there,

Galle - Kandy: 5 to 6 hours

Galle to Sigiriya (though Colombo-Kurunegala road): 6 to 7 hours at least.

They are really as beautiful but quite different. Kandy is the hill queen with old palace/temple, botanical garden, hill statues and lovely lake walks and vistas. Sigiriya is the rock fortress of course but also nice lakes nearby, and an even hotter climate than Galle whilst Kandy is 5%26#39; cooler.

Hope this helps a bit,
