Approx cost of excursions from Blue Water, Wadduwa

Hi - my parents are off to the Blue Water middle of January, and they are wondering how much to budget for excursions. Think they would prefer an overnight stay, visit the Elephant Orphanage and whatever sights could be combined with that, maximum two days. Some of the reports suggest that it is better to go with the guys on the beach, but others think the tour operators possibly use a better hotel. Any advice for them would be much appreciated, especially from anyone who has stayed recently at the hotel. Thanks.

Hi to both of you,

For quality comparison between operators and beach boys see

tripadvisor.com/Travel-g293961-c89412/Sri-La…

But that%26#39;s part of the story; the accomodation chosen in Kandy and the route of course also form part of the price.

Wadduwa-Kandy is about 150 km distance and with a price of Rs 40/km (one-way) that means the total travel price, including Pinawela and Kandy town sightseeing, should be around Rs 13,000-14,000. Add to that accomodation and possibly entrance fees; and extra things like extending the trip to Sigiriya. But just to give an idea...

All the best,

Hi

For a 2 days/1 night trip to Kandy(Dambulla-Sigiriya) with a free-lance guide/driver the costs for transport in AC vehicle (car/van) should not exceed LKR 13000.

You decide whichever hotel you want to stay at, and the guide/driver can arrange that too. From 5*/boutique hotels to simple guesthouses. Mid-range hotel in Kandy, e.g. newly built Serene Garden Hotel is about LKR 7000 for a double room with half board.

Entrance fees:

Elephant Orphanage LKR 1000/pp

Tooth Temple LKR 500/pp

Botanical Garden LKR 600/pp

Cultural Show LKR 500/pp

Dambulla Cave Temple LKR 1250 (USD 11)/pp

Sigiriya Rock Fortress LKR 2700 (USD 25)/pp

The advantage of arranging through a free-lance guide/driver is that the trip will be tailored according to you wishes.
