Amaya or Thilanka

Hi,

We ar a family of 8 spending 2 nights in Dambulla. Unfortunately Kandalama is a tad expensive. The options I have are between Amaya Lake or Thilanka Spa. Would you help me choose between the two? If anyone who has stayed at either of these places can let me know feedback, that would be great. Thanks a lot.

Amaya or Thilanka

Hi there,

On our text trip we%26#39;re scheduled for Amaya. I passed by Thilanka this spring (it%26#39;s near the main road Habarana-Dambulla) and found the location to be a bit unimpressive - on a hillside with some views but not that much. Amaya%26#39;s views are much better, being on the Kandalama tank (lake) where also the hotel with that name is situated. On the other hand Thilanka is almost brand new whilst Amaya is a refurbished version of a much older and settled hotel (formerly known as Culture Club.)

For the rest I expect them to be similar class as their siblings, Thilanka Kandy and Amaya Hills Kandy both of which we%26#39;ve visited. Quite decent 3-4 star quality that is...

Hope this helps a bit,

Amaya or Thilanka

Hello SunSind

A friend of mine stayed at Thilanka, Dambulla recently and she was not impressed with the place. The service and food were fine, apparently, but the overall feel of the hotel did nothing for her .. something lacking. Cannot comment on Amaya Lake as I have not been there.

Why are you restricting your choice to those two hotels? The cultural triangle is full of marvellous places. Our favourite is Sigiriya Village Hotel, but if you like your food, Cinnamon Lodge at Habarana is the place to be. It%26#39;s cheaper neighbour, Chaaya Village, also has that amazing food. I can recommend any of these hotels.

Hi,

I agree with Susie. Habarana is more central. It is easier to travel to A%26#39;pura, Polonnaruwa or Sigiriya from Habarana. Cinnamon lodge is a very beautiful hotel with good food and situated on a very good location by the lake.
