Changing Money

Hi,

We will be arriving in Colombo on January 1st and were just wondering where is the best place to change money? Should we change our money at the airport or would we get a more favourable rate in Colombo?

Hi there,

In our experience the airport bank offices (plus Thomas Cook) give the same rate as their branches in town. However jewelry shops in town, some of them licensed to change and sometimes %26#39;black%26#39;, at times pay slightly more. However with those, more so than with the banks, count ALL your rupees (quite a job with 150-200 to the pound) as they%26#39;re known as less reliable in some aspects.
