Hello there
I%26#39;m visiting Sri Lanka with my boyfriend for 2 weeks on Dec 29th for the first time. We%26#39;re wanting to go down to the South Coast perhaps for a week or so - Marissa / Tanagalle areas, then up to the hill country - Ella sounds really nice, then catching the train back through to Kandy.
These are the thoughts so far! I wondered if anyone had any recommendations in terms of where to stay in Mirissa and the Tangalle area and which beaches are the most beautiful around there. Considering catching a taxi from Colombo airport (arrive at 5am) down to the south coast and I wondered if anyone else had done that and how much we should expect to stay?
Thanks so much!

Visiting Srl Lanka in Dec / JanHi CS,
Can%26#39;t help much with acco and beaches there. Can help a bit with transport. Car from airport to there costs quite a lot, as you%26#39;re talking about 200+ km translating to around Rs 12,000-15,000. Alternative is to take a Negombo guesthouse/hotel for the first day, then an early rise on next morning and train Negombo-Colombo and Colombo-Matara. Mirissa is close to Matara.
Hope this helps a bit,

Hi!
Palm Paradise Cabanas in on the West side of Tangalla. I don%26#39;t know if Mirissa has one guesthouse with same name.
I can%26#39;t recommand Bay Hotel at Tangalla. not really nice.
Amanwella is more than a 5* hotel.
You will find many cheap and mid-range guesthouse on the East side of Tangalla, beach call Medaketiya or Madilla.
Have a nice time,
Severine
I paid 8500 rupees for a taxi from the airport to Mirissa mid November and have just been quoted $80 and $90 for when I go again in 10 days. I get in at 12.30 at night and can be there by 5.30 so think it%26#39;s worth the tiredness. Arriving at 5am you could get a taxi into Colombo and catch an early train - last year I caught the first of the day at about 7.30am. Would get into Welligama about lunchtime and then a 15 minute tuk tuk ride to Mirissa.
Many of the guesthouses are not accessible on the internet and it%26#39;s a matter of just walking along the beach or up Paradise Beach Resort road and seeing what%26#39;s available. It%26#39;s a great spot, very laid back, friendly and no hassle on the beach.
Accommodation -try Sunshine Guest House, Central Beach Inn, Ocean Moon Guest House, Sunset Beach House.
Thanks again all for all of your advice! x
