Elephants

Where should we go to be able to come close to the elephants and bathe with them? As I understand -in Pinnewalla it is not possible, and I have been recommended Millenium Found close to Pinnewalla, where it is possible to ride them.Any one has a better choise? We are making the route Colombo-Bentota-Galle-Hatton-Kandy-Kandalama-Negombo,so somewhere along that route. Thanks

Hi Raiza

Yes at Millenium Foundation you can ride and bathe the elephants, close to Kandalama at Habarana you can also ride an elephant too, there is an elephant safrai there, don%26#39;t think you can bathe them there though.

Elephants

You can get a ride on Bentota beach Young elephant. elephant orphanage also. Some one mentioned another place near the orphanage were you can also ride and bath

Hi,

I%26#39;m sure you cant get a ride in the Elephant Orphanage.

You can at the place next door which is called the Millenium elephant foundation.

You can easily visit both in the same day.

Hi,

Habarana is famious for elephant rides. 铆its close to Kandalama.

Hi Raiza,

As everyone said you can%26#39;t ride an elephant at the orphanage. You can bathe them at the Millennium foundation but they are expensive. There is a place only about 500 meters from the foundation where you can wash them for almost nothing but you would have to pay if you ride. You can also do the same at Habarana, when they take the elephants for a bath at mid day. It is done at a small stream on Habarana - A%26#39;pura road about 500 meters from Habarana junction.

Frank.

Hi Raiza,

What ever you do and where ever you go, do not miss to visit the elephant orphanage in Pinnawalla. It is a great place to take photographs with many elephants (they may have around 70 of them) especially on their way to the bath and while bathing.

But,

be aware that they have changed the rules at Pinnawalla. It%26#39;s no longer free to go down to Elephant Park Hotel (where the elephants are bathing in the river).

Hans

This last comment showns that Pinnewalla is just for tourists and if you have to pay extra to see the elephants in the river, that just tells me to go to Millenium or the other place close

You to decide!

Hi,

I think it%26#39;s cheeky trying to go in to the elephant orphanage without paying. When the elephants are in the river you need to pay to go down the lane that leads to the river. Trying to get in without paying, saying that you are going to one of the hotels is not nice. After all , they need money to look after those elephants.
