5 days in Bentota

Hi all,

our family will go to Sri Lanka in April. We%26#39;ll have a tour Colombo-Pinawela-Habarana-Sigirija-Polonaruwa-Habarana-Dambula-Matale-Candy-Paradeniya-Nuware Elija-Kitulgala. I%26#39;m sorry for grammar. After the tour we%26#39;ll stay in Bentota%26#39;s hotel for 5 days. Would you recommend any sightseeing, interesting trip (one day trip), and what to do (surfing, etc.) this 5 days.

5 days in Bentota

Well you%26#39;ve seen all main inland highlights, and beach area is for R %26amp; R anyway, so only shorter tours.

One day tour you should not miss is southwards. First do Galle town, a major Unesco monument (1.5-2 hour drive). When you%26#39;ve seen enough of this, on your way back there are no less than 3 interesting places where you can choose from: Hikkaduwa (glass bottom boat trip on the coral reef), Ambalangoda (mask making) and Meetiyagoda. The latter is 5 km inland between the two towns and contains a moonstone mining area with sale and display of the %26#39;homegrown%26#39; gems.

There%26#39;s a few other trips possible. E.g. Bentota river (half day), or Kalutara huge temple and river (another half day). Or the Brief and Lunatunga gardens near the town.

You could also do a full day trip inland to Sinharaja rain forest but it%26#39;s probably a bit too much for an R %26amp; R period - first 2 hours drive at least and then many hours walking safari.

The boat trip up the river is a must,as well as a visit to the Turtle Hatchery at Kosgoda,make sure you go late afternoon, for a small fee you can release 3 day old baby turtles into the sea.A wonderful experience.
