Hi can any one help with a few questions? 1.what is the travel allowance traveling from ireland via london to doah then on to colombo? 2.would it be best to buy toiletries at home or when we get there? 3.Do we need a cardigan/jacket for night time.4.is there lots of mosquitos around in feb.5.is it true that you cant bring cigarettes in to sri lanka?what about alcohol?that brings me to my next question where is it best to buy duty free?Gatwick,Doah,or columbo,on arrival or departure,6.where is it best to change money?and what currency is it in Doah?7.last but not least is there anything worth purchasing?.We are travelling in mid feb,staying in tangerine beach in kalutara.Thanks in advance.mamo

Will do our best.

1. Determined by the import restrictions in Colombo, transit stops don%26#39;t count. So far as duty free stuff is concerned. When you%26#39;re talking about overall luggage allowance that%26#39;s on your ticket, and when you%26#39;re talking about liquids: none unless sealed dutyfree from Dublin or London.

2. Upto you. For Kalutara shopping of this stuff you%26#39;d need to take a tuktuk into town, there are a few tourist shops near the hotels but for household stuff they overcharge.

3. As long as you don%26#39;t go to Nuwara Eliya/Ella areas, nope. Coast is 28-30%26#39; nighttime, and Kandy 20%26#39;.

4. Yep, year round some risks - e.g. Dengue Fever on coast (no malaria there). Have cream with DEET.

5. No ciggies indeed except for one open packet. Alcohol allowed as long as within the dutyfree limits.

As for where cheapest: for sure not Colombo (Arrivals), we found it more expensive than e.g. Singapore. Did not compare the other places.

6. On arrival in airport or at the Kalutara town banks. Can%26#39;t get SL rupee decently abroad. Doha airport accepts plastic, dollars, euros and Qatar Dirham (? or Riyal?) but change is in Dirham.

7. Depends on your taste. Much stuff, e.g. clothes, is lots cheaper in Lanka than in Europe...
