I have won a holiday to Sri Lanka for one week in a tea factory hotel, I%26#39;ve never won anything before, I%26#39;ll go with my sister(two middle aged women)!
Q1 I can go between April -end October 2009, ..any ideas when best to go?
Q2 We could travel and stay elsewhere..what places do you recommend?
Q3 Any views on do we need to take malaria medication?
thanks, Sally
When and where to go...help please?Hi Sally,
Congratulations!
Q1. July to September is by far the best in this period. For _the_ Tea Factory hotel, assuming you mean this, in Nuware Eliya July is better than later in the summer.
Q2. A beach stay, for the contrast. As you%26#39;re not that far from the south coast already in Eliya opt for e.g. Tangalle or Mirissa. And at least one day trip to Kandy from Eliya.
Q3. Not at all for the hill country. Recommended though (or instead strong anti-mozzie measures) if you stay overnight in the hot lowlands: Udu Walawe area in the south or Cultural Triangle north of Kandy.
All the best,

When and where to go...help please?Hi Sally,
I concur with everything that Erik has said, especially, if you choose part of the time on a beach, then head south to Mirissa.
But,
From Newara Eliya area it%26#39;s easy to get the train north to Kandy and from there explore a little of the cultural triangle.
Given the short time you have there and travel in Lanka being slow, I think you should do a few internet searches and see whats available at places like Polonorua, Dambulla, Kandy and Pinawella Elephant orphanage.
You could spend maybe three days at the cultural triangle the rest in the hills or a few days at the beach and the rest at the hills but in a week you won%26#39;t have time to cover everything.
So, I reckon do a few searches and make a choice.
Rod.
