Full Moon - Poya Day

For those who don%26#39;t know, whenever there%26#39;s a full moon in SL, no alcohol may be served or consumed in public. That includes hotels!

Dec 31st this year will be a full moon; just wondering if the no alcohol rule will be applied.

Full Moon - Poya Day

Hi DSK,

Formally no doubt it will. After all NYE is less special in Lanka than in Western countries, they celebrate Sinhala/Tamil NY which is early April much more.

But informally, on this one like on all other poya days, no doubt %26#39;flexibility%26#39; can be arranged in all hotels. E.g. serving at your room, or in the bar/restaurant having an unsuspected teapot serving a quite different content, etc. etc...

All the best,

Full Moon - Poya Day

Hi there....

Just to add to Erik%26#39;s reply, YES December 31st this year is indeed a Poya or Full Moon Day, BUT, the hotels will be able to apply to the excise people there in Lanka for special licenses to serve alcohol for ';Resident Guests'; for the evening, so no real panick for the party goers that are hotels residents !

Regards

Dave
