What to wear when in sri lanka is it westernised????

Hi there,

Yes shorts are fine. Some hotels however value long attire for dinner.

And for visiting temples no bare shoulders and legs for men; can be solved by wearing long on such a day but also by renting (or one-time buying) of a sarong.

All the best,

Hi,

Cotton clothes are ideal as Sri Lanka is a tropical island. Light clothing is recommended in the lowland areas and light woolen clothing is suitable in the hill country. A sun hat and sun glasses may help to escape the heat during day time.

Only few hotels enforce a dress code. Skirt and blouse is ideal for gals, trousers and short sleeved shirt is ideal for the guys, but shorts and 3/4 with a tshirt (not tank tops) is accepted for both.

If you intend to visit temples, remember that you have to cover your shoulders and knees (both sexes), and you have to take off your shoes.

At bigger temples it is possible to rent a sarong and a shawl to cover up.

If you don%26#39;t like to walk barefooted, it is a good idea to bring a pair of old socks.

Do pack lightly. Day to day laundry service is available at most hotels, and good quality clothes are extremely cheap in Sri Lanka.

It%26#39;s strange because although you are in a totally different culture whatever you want to wear feels okay, most of the day around the hotel, swimwear with a sarong (if you need to hide up the bulges!!) is fine, cotton clothing is by far the best option, if you wear synthetic material no matter how sheer you will feel hot, we stayed at browns beach and they offered a cheap and quick laundry service, so with that and washing out by hand your ';smalls'; my advice would be to travel light, more room that way to bring back lots of goodies.

Have a great time.

Regards

Jean.
