Sri Lanka - 1st Visit - places to avoid - trouble spots

Hi

We are thinking of travelling to Sri Lanka in March for our 1st trip there.

Can you advise if this is a good time to visit.

I saw some TV news of Problems with Tamil rebels etc - can you advise the most trouble free areas.

We would like to stay at Beaches / Huts and possible do some sight seeing.

Thank you

Hi John,

March is a decent time. At the end of the high season, and still a good chance of all-sunny days on the southwest coast with possibly some clouds and a brief shower in afternoon/evening.

In the tourist areas no reason to worry. It%26#39;s however recommended to be careful inside Colombo town (not Colombo airport), and avoid government buildings and large gatherings there. Also for some countries, mainly UK, Yala wildlife Park in the southeast is considered %26#39;unsafe%26#39; (no insurance coverage). However this is an outdated rule so if your country does not have this warning then feel free to visit.

All the best,

%26lt;Erik%26gt; %26amp; [Sandya] - also crisscrossing part of the tourist area in March...

Thank you - maybe we%26#39;ll meet up, who knows ?
