Reading between the lines I get the impression that these little critters can be a problem!If so are mosy coils etc easily available in Unawatuna?

Mosquito coils are easily available. They might even be supplied by the hotel/guesthouse.

Some hotels/guesthouses spray the rooms with Mortein after sunset.

The smoke from mosquito coils is not very healthy to inhale. Better use mosquito net for sleeping and a repellent with DEET, e.g. Autan.

regarding what Hans has said about mozzie coils.

I%26#39;ve bought two different brands in Sri Lanka,

One, that I can%26#39;t remember the name of, really makes me feel bad. I wake with a bad headache after it%26#39;s use.

The other one had no effect on me and it worked fine. I think that one was called Ninja.

Hi All,

We are going to Sri Lanka in Feb.

We intended to use Deet 50%, spray the room at night and take a plug in with us. Is this OK or do we also need a coil.

Should suffice. I only use a coil when I have no spray and there%26#39;s no AC; even with (strong) fan on often no coil needed.

We have noticed that Autan is unavailable in all pharmacies in Galle. As are other mozzie repellants containing Deet. We were reliably informed that the reason is that all supplies of Autan were commandeered by the Sri Lankan army for use in the north.

Suggest you bring adequate supply with you.
