Entrance fees

Hi all

can anyone let me know how much entrance fees are into the main tourist sites such as the elephant orphanage? - also can you pay extra here to ride and bathe the elephants? How much to get into tea plantations, Temple of the Tooth, etc, etc. Any info would be helpful!

As far as i know the entrance fees per person are as follows.

Elephant Orphanage - Rs.1000.00

Tooth of Temple - Rs.500.00

Most of the tea plantations you can enter free of charge. Elephant rides are not possible in the elephant orphanage. Most famous area is habarana to ride elephants.

You can%26#39;t bathe or ride elephants at the Elephant Orphanage, Pinnawalla. It%26#39;s possible to do that at Millennium Foundation, which is just a short distance from Elephant Orphanage.

I heard rumours a couple of days ago, that Elephant Orphanage is tripling entrance fees for foreigners to LKR 3000 and doubling tor locals to LKR 100 from early January. I hope to confirm in a few days.

Entrance fees to the elephant orphanage has been increased from Rs 1000 to Rs 2000 from 01.01.2009.

Just to confirm that Elephant Orphanage has increased entrance fees for foreigners to LKR 3000 and for locals to LKR 100. My friend%26#39;s driver was there yesterday.

Yesterday I was told that Elephant Orphanage has reduced their entrance fees due to boycott from the bigger tour companies. One day 3 coaches turned around at the gate and went to Millennium Foundation in protest.

Now entrance fees are divided in 2:

- Watching the elephants bathe in the river (which IMO is the main attraction) is now LKR 750

- Entering the orphanage and watch the bottle feeding is now LKR 500.
