colombo for a day

whats best done in colombo from 1 pm till around 9 pm ? places to see ? shopping ? sightseeing ? good dinner ?

colombo for a day

Hi there,

Still can%26#39;t think of many interesting sights/places. Galle Face Green is not bad and neither is Town Hall with adjoining Maha Devi Vihara Park, but it%26#39;s all not-bad-for-a-horrible city - nothing compared to e.g. Kandy or Galle Fort.

Shopping: Odel (near Town Hall), Crescat City (near Cinnamon Grand hotel not far from Galle Face Green), Majestic City mall and House of Fashions which are more or less together in Bambalapitiya, 3 km south of the business centre. And finally Pettah, near railway station/centre, which is a typical bazaar/soukh area.

Good dining - well we usually stick to the big hotels but of course those which have nice scenic Al Fresco places. Galle Face hotel and Mount Lavinia stand out because they have beach terraces, Cinnamon Grand isn%26#39;t bad either..

All the best,

Victoria Park, Art museum opposite, shopping (Odels) and Clancy%26#39;s irish bar would be my choice.

HI,

If this is just for a few hours stop over, I wouldn%26#39;t go to Colombo ,,, but to Negombo.

Colombo you have all the hassle of the trafic , getting to and from while, especially travelling n at around mid-day. Negombo is only 20 minutes from the airport.

Negombo doesn%26#39;t have the big shops of Colombo but it has plenty of ordinary shops, a market, the fishing harbour, and beach fish market, the lagoon,

river and canal trips, spa,s bars and restaurants, the beach, etc.

If you have to be in Colombo for some specific reason, fair enough but if it%26#39;s just to see a little of local life, stretch your legs and relax a little, I%26#39;d opt for Negombo.

Rod.
