Airport to Colombo Fort Railway Station

Hi, Could someone please let me know whether or not the bus service from the airport to Fort railway station departs from outside the arrivals hall and how long it will take? thanks, John

Hi John,

It got slightly changed last year.

Step 1: Outside the arrivals hall (far east side) is a big red bus waiting. It departs every 15-20 mins for the 5-10 minutes ride to the Katunayake bus station (2 km further) and is free.

Step 2: At that bus station you board the next Colombo bus, which usually departs within 10-15 mins (when it has almost filled up) and takes around 90 mins to reach Fort - except for the most quiet (60 mins) and most rush-hour times (almost 2 hours?) of the day.

Most of the Airport-Fort buses have a reasonable luggage space, better than normal express buses, but might charge extra if you bring a suitcase or the like. Backpacks should do.

Probably. At least the red shuttle bus is, as some other services from Katunayake bus stand (a.o. Kandy) are 24h.

Do note however that Lankan buses generally don%26#39;t have a timetable (unlike the trains) but do depart %26#39;when full enough%26#39;, and same can happen at some intermediate stops. So once you%26#39;re at the Katunayake stand you might have to wait 30-45 mins between 1 AM and 5 AM for a bus to leave, compensating for the quicker (60 mins) travel time to Colombo...
