Has anyone stayed in Jetwing Blue Oceanic hotel in Negombo and is it suitable for teenagers and youngsters. We have been looking at Browns Beach and the Hotel Club Dolphin but now im wondering if Club Dolphin may be a bit far out to wander around after dinner. There are going to be 11 of us altogether and Im sure we will need 2 taxis.
Im getting a bit worried about Negombo now as we will probably spend the whole 6 days there with maybe a trip into Colombo. We really havent got the time to travel down to the better beaches or inland. We have a 2 year old who doesnt travel well by road, so we want to cut travel time down as much as possible. Are we staying at the right resort or would Mount Lavinia or somewhere further down be a better decision? We have been to Goa about 10 years ago and enjoyed that.
Thanks for any info

Blue oceanic verses hotel club dolphin or browns beachHi,
I can%26#39;t comment on the hotels but if you%26#39;re anywhere around the Negombo area there%26#39;s one trip that you could do easily in a day and I%26#39;ve no doubt would please even the youngest in the party.
Thats the Elephant Orphanage at Pinawella.
About 2 to 2 1/2 hours by road and you get as close as you want to, get to a big herd of elephants as well as watching them play around in the river and watch the babies get bottle fed.
A water trip along the river and canals, just on the outskirts of Negombo is good . For canals, don%26#39;t think of canals surrounded by buildings, etc it%26#39;s greenery all the way with lots of colourful bird life, usually some big water monitors and the chance to get ashore in a couple of places to watch a toddy tapper at work in the tree tops.

Blue oceanic verses hotel club dolphin or browns beachHi there....
Dolphin and Browns would be more suited to familes i believe than Blue Oceanic would be.
Mount Lavinia, apart from being much further from the airport is really a city centre/business type hotel, so again not really catering for familes with kids as Browns or Dolphin would do, although ideally situated for your shopping trip to Colombo.
As for transport, instead of 2 taxis, a mini bus would be far more suited to your needs with 11 people, and of course cheaper that way too.

Dave
Thanks for your advice Rod and Dave.
I have researched so many web sites for the hotels, that I am starting to get blurred. I tried the actual hotel web site for the Browns beach and discovered it was more expensive than most.
Im sure once we decide and actually make the booking we will be fine. I cant please everyone can I?
Will probably try the elephant trip.

Hi bmaz! I am sure you can negotiate with the hotel
about the rates, there are not so many tourists at
the moment! We will be soon as well in Negombo and
looking forward to it %26gt;greetings from icecold Switzerland
Hi, the dolphin is nice , but far out and only the complex to walk around, browns beach has good food , but is very 70%26#39;s the blue oceanic has a lovely clean pool a beach bar with gorgeous pizzas and snacks and is within walking distance of all the shops and bars etc.
the elephant orphanage is a must to see.
enjoy.
hi..
i agree with julie. you can try Blue Ocenic Beach Hotel Negombo. You can walk about near Blue Ocenic. There are many restuarants, pubs, bars etc. If you want to go Kandy or Colombo; you can find a mini bus from Negombo. this is the contct details of Blue Ocenic Hotel.
