browns beach hotel

Hi All

I have just read the latest review on browns beach hotel regarding the state of the rooms and the smell of sewage etc. and I am a little concerned as my wife have booked this hotel staying June for two weeks our second time in SL.

should we be concerned and maybe change hotel??

stayed at dolphin last time but wanted to be nearer to town for evenings out etc.

any advice please.

thanks

Richard

Hi Richard,

I would not base my decision on a single negative review. Most reviews from the last year rates the hotel from average to good. Most hotels in Sri Lanka (compared with European standards) could need a spring cleaning and a bit of paint.

Hi Richard

I would not worry if i were you about a single negative review about a hotel, you only have to trawl through most hotel reviews in Sri Lanka to see that they all would from time to time get one like this, even the BEST hotels would from time to time get a negative review, it all depends on a person%26#39;s particular view of thier holiday.

Browns is a good medium, class hotel, with nearly all reviews praising it in some way or other, so really nothing to worry about.

A good friend of mine recently stayed there, and she works for a well known German travel company and if if was as bad as last review ';made out'; then she would have said so by now, but alas she didn%26#39;t !

Reading between the lines of that review, it would seem to me that the bad remarks were aimed at the travel company more than the hotel itself !!, and even that i find hard to believe.

Hope this helps

Regards

Dave

I also read a bad review on Browns Beach before we went last September and wondered what we were letting ourselves in for but our fears were unfounded and we had a lovely stay there, we had upgraded to a beach room and I am glad that we did as I wasn%26#39;t impressed with the rooms in the main hotel, but saying that, some people we met had been coming back for ages and always stayed in a standard room so it is very much an individual preference.

I am sure you will have a great time and will enjoy yourselves at Browns Beach, all of the staff are helpfull polite and very friendly, the hotel is in need of a good spruce up but so are a lot of places whether in SL or UK.

Enjoy yourselves and if I can offer any info don%26#39;t hesitate to ask.

Regards,

Jean

We recently stayed in a hotel in Bali. I read about the Hotel on the forum and people said the bathrooms smelled. We still stayed there and there was only a slight odour only on somedays. The way it read on the forum was like it was terrible. You could always buy an airfreshner if it bothered you too much. Just remember you are in the tropics so mould grows so quickly and Sri Lanka is a third world country. Sanitation isn%26#39;t up to Western standards even if it is a top hotel.

We saw rats running through the pool garden at the Sheraton in Hanoi Vietnam. We were having breakfast one morning in a good 4 star hotel and a rat ran through the dining area in Hoi An. Its just part of the travel experience not that I like rats.

Have fun

Hi

We stayed for 3 weeks at Browns Beach in Dec 08 to jan 09 and we had a bungalow. We did have a smell of sewage and they worked on it for several days but it was never overwhelming or in the rooms. It is a delightful hotel..yes a little shabby, but design and layout very pleasant and staff wonderful. You will enjoy the experience.
