10 days in srilanka

Hi there,

I%26#39;d suggest AGAINST wanting to see all main highlights in the inland. Some people cram the needed 1200-1400 km in 7 days and then need more than 3 days for relaxing afterwards...

So better IMHO is 5-6 days seeing a large parts of the inland and then 4-5 days relaxing on a beach. Two options for first block, each taking about 800-900 km:

a) Kandy (including Pinawela elephant parks, there are 2 to choose from) and then heading to the north for the Cultural Triangle. A main sight there is Sigiriya Rock Fortress but you can also e.g. do a jeep safari in a wildlife park.

b) Kandy again but from there turn southwards toward the Hill Country. Tea, waterfalls, lovely vistas etc. and at the end an option of a safari in Udu Walawe or Yala park.

After this tour, settle on a beach. For a) Negombo or Marawila makes most sense, for b) it%26#39;ll be somewhere on the south or west coast. E.g. Tangalle, Unawatuna, Bentota or Kalutara.

Activities for a 2-year old - not that many specific. There%26#39;s a water park with lots of slides and rides near Avissawella (20 km southeast of Colombo) but I%26#39;d guess the minimum age to really enjoy the extras is 4-5 years, 2 years is a bit small. All hotels except the higher part of the Hill Country will have pools, always helpful. And of course Pinawela will be a highlight for him too.

If you go to Youtube and find the clip of Duran Duran%26#39;s %26#39;Save a prayer%26#39;, that doubles as a 6-minute commercial of many main sights of Sri Lanka. Just to get an impression...

Hope this gives some idea, and feel free to come back with more detailed questions,

whar a lovely video. Anyone know where the coastal shots are?

Weligama (between Galle and Matara). Recognizable due to the unique stilt fishers, who mainly continue as show-off for the tourists...

All the best,

Thanks. Certainly looks beautiful

Mirissa in the south near Welligama is the best beach to settle and really relax. Off the main road for the most part and beautiful.
