Taj Past its best

Im looking to stay at the Taj in June 2009 for a honeymoon. It seems that the hotel is going down hill so would anyone be able to recomend a better hotel that is still close to %26#39;The Strip%26#39; as we will want to eat out in the local Sri Lankan Restaurants but not have to haggle with Tuk Tuk drivers nightly?

Or does anyone know if the hotel is likely to be improved by next year?

Taj Past its best

Hi there....

Yes, Taj Exotica, like all 3 Taj hotels in Sri Lanka are now well past thier previous best, Taj Exotica in Bentota now lucky to achieve 4 star status really.

Only ONE true 5 star in Bentota area now, that is Saman Villas, but away from the ';strip'; area though, but reasonably close to one or two good restauraunts, best one probably is at Wunderbar Hotel, still a short 5 minute tuk tuk ride away.

Taj hotels have indeed started to refurbish thier hotels there in Lanka, Samudra in Colombo has had some work done on it, but still some way from it%26#39;s best, and the Airport Garden will be completely refurbished and 100 rooms added starting some time next year, but would doubt the Exotica would be be refurbished any time soon.

Regards

Dave

Hi why not look at the wunderbar web page they have a beautiful hotel and restaurant with 100m from the ocean. you can walk the beautiful beaches to saman or taj and beyond. they have there own tuk tuk drivers who are safe and do not haggle with you and would organise pick up from any other local restaurant at any time you want hassle free. They have a lovely relaxed atmosphere throughout the day and down on the beach of an evening is a great party scene with all the staff playing the bongos and having fun. lots of local things to do if you want to do watersport or tuk tuk safari. volley ball at tea time if you want to join in and nice easy listening music if you just want to chill out. the deluxe rooms are really nice and there is no noise from the train. you can hear the trains from the standard rooms.
