Hi

Is there much train noise at the Mermaid ?

I%26#39;ve looked on Google Earth and the track runs right by the hotel.

Is this a problem ?

Haven%26#39;t stayed there but have stayed in similar-situated hotels like Taj Exotica Bentota. Generally not a big problem as the train is the back side of the hotels and most rooms are sea view. Once every hour on the average a train on that like, though this is north of Kalutara town and there the frequency is a bit higher (double tracks). And at night between midnight and 5 AM only 1-2 (freight or night) trains.

Haven%26#39;t slept a minute less due to it, hope it would be same for you.

Hi, stayed at the Mermaid last February with my hubby. We didnt hear a sound from the railway whilst we were at the hotel. The only problem we had was that it was very quiet there with nothing to do outside the hotel! We loved walking the railway line dishing out sweets, as most people do, other than the trips we were quite bored with hotel.
