How Safe is it to travel

I am going to Sri Lanka on my honeymoon in August 2009 and have heard conflicting reports about the safety of the country, especially in the North and East. I am going to the South to Galle Fortress Hotel. Does any one how safe and secure the airport transfers are to the hotel? Also the safety around the south of the country?

Thanks

How Safe is it to travel

Hi Laura,

Quite safe - better than e.g. Spanish costas! The only touristy zone with some risks is Colombo town (not Colombo airport) but your transfer driver will know quite well how to avoid risk points like government convoys. Galle, and the hotel, is hundreds of miles away from the north and east risk zones.

Have a safe time, we%26#39;ll also have one at least once before August,

That is more reassuring to know that the airport and the town arent actually the same. My travel agent said it is fine but my parents just had me worried.

Have just arrived back this afternoon. Spent 3 weeks in the south - no problems at all.
