Duruthu Perahera

Hiya Folks,

I鈥檝e never made it to the Kelaniya Temple in Colombo for Duruthu Poya but I鈥檓 going for it this year.

Any tips on what day (9th or 10th) and what time of day(morning, noon or night?) and where to watch the procession would be much appreciated.

Hello Mark,

Its on the 9th night and you could watch the procession from the temple or nearby as it goes on the main road of Kelaniya. You may have to buy a ticket for this as well.

Duruthu Perehera at Kelaniya Temple has been cancelled this year due to the prevailing security situation. (Lanka Daily Mirror 07.01.2009).

Cheers Hans, my Sinhalese friends advised against it (for the reason you give) We went to Kataragama instead, which was as wonderful as ever.
