The closest place to Unawatuna for whale watching is Mirissa (about 40 km east of Unawatuna)

Yes Mirissa is closest point. They do from that point up to Dodra. Its about 3 to 4 hours. If I remember correct Mirissa Sports Club organizes this.

As a nishantha said mirissa sport club organizing whale watching tours in proper way with aid of consulate Belgium in sri lanka. Having well experienced and friendly crew. Usual daily trip starting at 7.00 am from east end of mirissa fishing harbor , a trip will take 3-4 hours both way .they got 2 boat going simultaneously if they got sufficient client.

They will charge 8000 RS (75 us$) per person also you need to wait until they get a group.
