just about to book with mercury direct royal palms, early november, any ideas on what weather will be like?

Early November ???, hmmm could be a little unsettled at that time, you will for sure see some rain most days but most likely in later afternon, evening time, but could be in mornings too, but not all day.

Yes it would, under the (questionable) assumption that prices would be the same. After Dec-15 high season starts on the coast and weather forecasts are much better than in the 2nd intermonsoon which covers November.

Or even January if you are that flexible. This year there was hardly any rain on the west coast in January. Avoid Xmas and New Year as prices for both flights and hotels are high.

Last December the inter-monsoonal season (supported by a couple of cyclones in the Bay of Bengal) lasted until just before Xmas, with heavy daily rain pours.
