Things to do in Kandy

Hi friends,

We will be visiting Kandy in September for a week%26#39;s time next year and want to plan things in advance. What are things to do in and around Kandy...are there any adventure sports options available?

Things to do in Kandy

Hi there,

Good base for many trips to the neighbourhood and also inside the town! About adventure sports: next to elephantbackriding at Pinawela Millennium Orphanage there%26#39;s wild water rafting at Kitulgala which is about 3 hours one-way from Kandy. And guided mountain hiking in the Knuckles mountains (90 mins from town) and probably also mountainbiking in some areas. Also a hike to climb Bible Rock near Kadugannawa seems possible, steep but brilliant views.

More %26#39;normal%26#39; sights:

* Inside/around Kandy: Temple of tooth, Peradeniya Gardens, hill Buddha, evening Kandy dance performance, walk around the lake (and/or boat hire on it).

* Slightly further away, half day or full day excursions: Pinawela orphanages, the %26#39;temple loop%26#39; to old temples southeast of town.

* Full day trips: Sigiriya Rock and on the way back Dambulla cave temple, Eliya area with tea plantations and waterfalls.

Hope this helps a bit to explore Sandya%26#39;s lovely birth town, have a nice time,

Things to do in Kandy

Thanks Erik, I was browsing forums as I will be visiting Kandy for 4 nights at the end of Feb this year.

We will be on our honeymoon.

Was wondering how easy it is to visit sights around Kandy once we are there rather than booking tours in advance??

does anyone know?

Thanks,

Danny

Hi Danny,

Should be no problem. Some sights can be done by tuktuk, bus or even walking; and for e.g. Pinawela and Temple triangle you can get a car-and-driver within minutes if needed.

All the best,
