anything we really shouldn`t miss?

I`m going to Unawatuna early March for two weeks. Is there anything we really shouldn`t miss visiting around this area?

Hi,

You should not miss visiting the old Dutch Fort (UNESCO heritage site) in Galle (5 km from Unawatuna). You can go there by bus (about LKR 10/one-way) or by tuk tuk (about LKR 200/one-way).

Thanks Hans,That was quick off the mark x

Hi,

also possible , just about, to do day trips to Udawalwe national park for the wild elephants and also Sinharaja Rain forest preserve.

A little trip on a train or bus you can visit Hikkaduwa for glass bottom boat rides over the coral reef and Ambalangoda for the mask makers and mask museum.

I also enjoyed visiting the moon stone mines near Hikkaduwa.

Rod.

Rumassala Nature walk is another item you could add.

Why not spend some time at Mirissa too - much nicer beach and a good feel place.

A trip to Yala should also be considered.

Stilt fisherman at Unawatuna and further, Dambulla Caves and Sygiria....(dont know if thats the correct spelling).
