Looking into going to Sri Lanka in August,

Could anyone help on which resort to go to please.

We are looking for somewhere where we can explore different things but also would like things to do on a night time.

Thanks Guys

where to go in sri lanka

Hi there,

Four areas have some level of nightlive and scene: Unawatuna, Hikkaduwa, Bentota and Negombo. For exploring the countryside all are equipped more or less equally because each has 1-2 major sights %26#39;at daytrip distance%26#39;. All other sights, e.g. Sigiriya rock and Ella/Haputale hills and tea area, need a multi-day trip anyhow.

Unawatuna has one 2-3 star resort (Unawatuna Beach Resort), Hikkaduwa has a few 2-3 stars, Bentota has one 5+ star (Saman Villas), one 3-4 star (Taj Exotica) and lots of 2-3 star and boutique places. Negombo finally has a 4-5 star (The Beach) and plenty of other choices.

Hope this helps a bit,

Thank you very much, Yes this helps me alot.

Would recommend booking a package deal or finding flights and booking hotel seperately?

Hi again,

Hmmm... it%26#39;s really dare-to-compare. Hotel separately: compare prices on independent sites like www.asiarooms.com and www.sri-lanka-hotelguide.com, and then add this to a cheap air ticket on an UK site. For packages, see recent discussions in this forum. There is no golden rule, sometimes the bargain is on one side and next week on the other. Also note that the hotel sites generally give BB basis whilst packages are often HB or All-inclusive, for dinner count 8-10 quid per person per day.

All the best,

Hi,

IMO it depends on where you want to stay and which kind of accommodation you want.

If you want to stay at hotels that are offered by the big tour operators, I doubt you can get it cheaper by booking flight and hotel yourselves. The tour operators get both rooms and flights a block rate or even cheaper.

On the other hand there are plenty of 2-3 star hotels, guesthouses and smaller boutique type villas you can%26#39;t book as part of a package.

Hans
