Need some information.

Hello travelers,

we are palnning to travel Sri Lanka next month. In advance we have some doubts as we planed our tour in a rush.

1.Is this the season for surfing in Arugambe?.And is it safe to go there?

2.We hope to take a driver for the touring around the country.do you have an idea of about the price per day they charge?.

3.also if any one can help us regarding best tracking in Sri Lanka.

When i go there i will also waitting to share my experience with you.

Hi Anya,

1. The best time of the year is between May and November when the predominant wind is offshore for at least the first half of the day. But i am not sure whether the activities are allowed in arugambay due to security reasons.

2. Averagely rental per day will be about Rs.3500-4000 for 100 Kilometers. Additional kilometers will be charged by about 35 rupees per kilometer.

3. Since this is the season the most famous trekking is Adam%26#39;s peak these days. But there enough of other places also. ex: Horton place etc.

LKR 35-40/km is a reasonable price, but you can%26#39;t do many trips that falls within 100 km/day.

February is time to visit south cost also having few number of surf point like hikkaduwa, narigama ,boosa ,unawatuna, midigama ,ahangama, weligama, mirissa if you are going to hire the driver better hire for fixed day rate it will be 6000-6500 RS per day unlimited KM drive.

Fro tracking knuckles range near rathota (rivers end) is most suitable place and also haputhale is another location using fro tracking .

Thanks for the quick responses. The rates seems different. But may be they are depending on the facilities and the condition of the vehicle ?

According to Nishantha I have planned to visit Adam,s peak to see the sun rise.

But I havent heard about Rartota. Are there any good places to stay in Ratota?.i have heard Hikkaduwa as more business type place. so we think of midigama or mirissa beach to stay.midigama%26amp; polahena beach is not the same beach ?

No the rates _should_ in general not depend on the quality of the vehicle. Make sure what they offer is full AC, insured, and that the driver has a SL Tourist Board license as a guide.

Differences exist probably simply because of different business models; e.g. %26#39;fixed price%26#39; becomes a profitmaker IF there is a maximum mileage and the company/driver expects to ride much more than that, the price per extra mile has more profit margin. In this sense I%26#39;m especially wary about offers which tell fixed price without a maximum - usually when you give them a schedule with consistently more than 150 km/day then the fixed price shows %26#39;more flexibility%26#39; than initially promised...

Midigama %26amp; Polhena are not the same beach. Mirissa is a good selection because of the tranquility.

Ratota itself no proper accommodation you have to stay mathale (about 30 km north of kandy).you can stay rest hose at mathale.

Rate mainly defending on the condition of the vehicle and when you chose a driver better take a service of licensed guide of Ceylon tourist board. Also beach boys having license but they allow to operate within area of their residence. Chauffer guides and national guides are only authorized to guiding island wide.

I doubt you will find any driver that will drive e.g. Bentota - Kandy and back (360 km) as one day trip for LKR 6500, or Colombo to Arugam Bay (320 km)for LKR 6500.

What I find is common practise is that you tell the driver/guide where you want to go and for how many days. He will then give you a price for the trip, based on LKR 30-35/km with a minimum of LKR 5500/day.

I have answered what he asked not what you mean 鈥淭OURRING AROUND THE COUNRTY 鈥欌€?when he say touring around that must be more that one day . if he asked price fro excursion like you mean from bentota to kandy or Colombo to arugambay price will be some thing else.
